Greetings from the mothership on a busy Monday in Houston. Then again, there’s never a slow day in this fine city of ours!
Here’s the latest on the Comets. We reported Friday that Hilton Koch is selling the club. County Judge Ed Emmett and Mayor Bill White have already sent out letter to key individuals locally that they hope may have interest in buying the Comets by the November deadline the WNBA has requested.
Go ahead and scratch Jim McIngvale off the list. He thought about it the last time they went for sale but backed away. Today, I talked with Mac , who again was pinpointed by city officials, and he says it’s not going to happen.
” My interest at this time in my life is helping children and not basketball franchises,” McIngvale told KPRC Local 2 Sports.
McIngvale added, ” If the NBA can’t market the league effectively, how can I? They are better at it that I would be.”
Koch, as reported on click2houston.com Friday, will officially step down at a Tuesday morning news conference.
If a new owner is not on board by November or possibly by January, the WNBA has said the team would re-locate or potentially fold.
On the radio front, I’ll be co-hosting from 3pm-5pm Tuesday on ESPN 97.5 The Ticket alongside Matt Malatesta. Talking Texans, Astros, Olympics and plenty of college and high school football.
